Where to stay in Taipei for New Year's Eve
To walk to the Taipei 101 fireworks, stay in Xinyi District; to watch from your room, look for hotels in Xinyi or Dazhi that advertise "Taipei 101 view" rooms. These rooms are usually the first to sell out on New Year's Eve and cost far more than usual, so book early and check that the room really faces Taipei 101.
Taichung New Year's Eve 2026: the city countdown party and Lihpao Resort
Taichung's official countdown party has recently been held at Shuinan Central Park. The December 31, 2024 edition opened with a warm-up at 6 p.m. and the main show at 7 p.m., running about six hours to the midnight countdown. The venue and line-up for December 31, 2026 haven't been announced; check Taichung Tourism.
- Lihpao Resort in Houli also holds a countdown concert every year, with a light show on its "Sky Dream" Ferris wheel and fireworks at midnight.

Kaohsiung's official party site has named the December 31, 2026 countdown "2027 雄嗨趴"; the site is still under construction, and the line-up, venue and fireworks are yet to be announced (see the Kaohsiung New Year's Eve party website). In recent years the party has mostly been held around the Asia New Bay Area, with fireworks over Kaohsiung Harbour.

E-DA World in Dashu District launches fireworks every New Year's Eve; December 31, 2024 was its 16th year. The fireworks are set off behind the shopping mall, and the on-site E-DA Royal Hotel and E-DA Skylark Hotel are the most convenient places to stay; check the E-DA World website for the 2026 show.

Where to stay in Kaohsiung for New Year's Eve
For the city countdown party, hotels in the Asia New Bay Area, Qianzhen or Lingya are the most convenient, and the light rail runs along the harbour; for the E-DA World fireworks, stay at one of the E-DA hotels. Roads around Kaohsiung Harbour are closed on New Year's Eve, so check the restricted area before driving.
Travelling between cities over New Year's Eve: what about your luggage?
Every city restricts traffic on New Year's Eve: roads close in Taipei's Xinyi District, around Taichung's Shuinan and along Kaohsiung Harbour, and metro station exits are crowd-controlled.
