Busan to Incheon Airport on Departure Day: How to Get There with Luggage
There is no direct train from Busan to Incheon Airport. The usual route is the KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station (about 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours, ₩54,400 in standard class), then the AREX Express to the airport (43 minutes to Terminal 1, ₩13,000). From a hotel in Haeundae, allow about 8 hours between leaving and take-off, including the 3 hours Incheon Airport recommends. With an evening flight, you can send your bags from your Busan hotel straight to the airport the same day.
Key takeaways
- No train runs from Busan directly to Incheon Airport: take the KTX to Seoul Station and change to the AREX, or ride the KTX to Gwangmyeong and take airport bus 6770.
- Since the September 2026 high-speed rail merger, the adult KTX fare from Busan to Seoul is ₩54,400 (down from ₩59,800), and former SRT trains run as KTX from Suseo in Gangnam.
- At the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal, passengers on participating Korean airlines can check in, drop bags and clear departure immigration before boarding the AREX Express.
- Busan–Incheon flights are transit-only domestic flights sold together with an international ticket; otherwise you fly Gimhae–Gimpo and take the AREX to Incheon.
- For a morning or midday flight, spending your last night in Seoul beats leaving Busan before dawn.
How to get from Busan to Incheon Airport: 5 options compared
There are five main ways from Busan to Incheon Airport: the KTX plus the AREX via Seoul Station, the KTX plus bus 6770 via Gwangmyeong, a direct bus, a transit-only domestic flight, and a domestic flight to Gimpo. On departure day you carry everything, so the number of changes matters as much as speed.
| Option | Route | Journey time | Adult fare | With large luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KTX + AREX Express | Busan Station → Seoul Station → Incheon Airport | KTX about 2 hr 20 min–3 hr + AREX 43–51 min | ₩54,400 + ₩13,000 | KTX allows 2 items per person, big cases between carriages; bags can be checked at Seoul Station with participating airlines |
| KTX + bus 6770 | Busan Station → KTX Gwangmyeong → Incheon Airport | KTX + bus, depending on traffic | KTX fare + ₩16,000 | Skips central Seoul; bags go in the bus hold for the last leg |

| Transit-only domestic flight | Gimhae Airport → Incheon | About 1 hr in the air | Priced as part of an international ticket | Only with a connecting international ticket; you check in at Gimhae |
| Domestic flight to Gimpo | Gimhae Airport → Gimpo Airport → AREX all-stop train to Incheon | About 1 hr in the air, plus transfer and check-in time | Varies by airline and date | Collect bags at Gimpo, check in again at Incheon |
KTX to Seoul Station + AREX Express: the usual route
The KTX to Seoul Station plus the AREX Express is the route most travellers take, with frequent trains and predictable times. The fastest KTX trains take about 2 hours 20 minutes and others up to about 3 hours; book on Korail's website or the Korail+ app, where tickets usually go on sale about a month ahead. According to AREX, the Express then runs non-stop from Seoul Station to Terminal 1 in 43 minutes and to Terminal 2 in 51 minutes, for ₩13,000. Make sure your KTX goes to Seoul Station: since the merger, some Busan trains are former SRT services that end at Suseo in Gangnam, far from the AREX.
Check in at Seoul Station before the AREX: the City Airport Terminal
At the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal you can check in and drop your suitcases before riding the AREX Express. According to Asiana Airlines, the service is for same-day international departures from Incheon, is only available to AREX Express passengers, and closes 3 hours 20 minutes before departure; departure immigration is on the same floor, and afterwards you use a dedicated departure passage at Incheon. AREX finished renovating the terminal in August 2026, and the airlines listed there are Korean carriers such as Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air, T'way and Jin Air. Flying a foreign airline, or with oversized bags? Check in at the airport.

KTX to Gwangmyeong + bus 6770: skip central Seoul
To avoid changing at Seoul Station, get off the KTX at Gwangmyeong, southwest of Seoul, and take airport bus 6770. According to Incheon Airport, route 6770 is run by Korail and costs ₩16,000 for adults. Not every KTX stops at Gwangmyeong, so check your train; bus times vary with traffic. Asiana also lists a city airport check-in counter at Gwangmyeong Station (06:30–17:00, same 3-hour-20-minute cut-off).
Direct bus from Haeundae to Incheon Airport
Long-distance buses run from Haeundae straight to Incheon Airport, with your suitcases in the hold. The trip usually takes 5 hours or more, and Seoul-area traffic makes it the least predictable option. Check times and fares on Korea's intercity bus booking site.
Flights: transit-only from Gimhae, or Gimhae to Gimpo
Flights from Gimhae Airport to Incheon are transit-only domestic flights for passengers connecting to an international flight, and they're booked together with your international ticket. You check in at Gimhae and your bags are normally checked through to your final destination, so it's the lightest option if your airline offers it; confirm when you book. Otherwise, fly Gimhae–Gimpo and take the AREX all-stop train to Incheon, which means two check-ins.
What time should you leave Busan for an Incheon Airport flight?
From a Haeundae hotel, plan to leave about 8 hours before your flight departs: roughly 5 hours of travel by subway, KTX and AREX, plus the 3 hours before departure that Incheon Airport recommends. If you stay near Busan Station, take off about an hour.
| Leg | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Haeundae to Busan Station (subway Line 2, then Line 1) | About 1 hour |
| KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station | About 2 hr 20 min–3 hr |
| Change from the KTX to the AREX at Seoul Station (walk and wait) | Allow 30 minutes or more |
| AREX Express to Incheon Airport | 43 min (Terminal 1) / 51 min (Terminal 2) |
| At the airport before departure (check-in, security, immigration) | 3 hours recommended |
To plan the day:
- Check your terminal on your e-ticket: Korean Air, Asiana, Jin Air, Air Busan and Delta use Terminal 2, while Jeju Air and many foreign airlines use Terminal 1.
- Work backwards from your departure time: subtract 3 hours for the airport, then the AREX, the change at Seoul Station and the KTX.
- Leave some slack, especially on Fridays, weekends and Korean holidays, when trains and luggage space fill up.
- If that puts you on a train before about 07:00, consider moving to Seoul the day before and spending your last night there.

Busan to Incheon Airport luggage delivery: from your Busan hotel to your flight
Busan to Incheon Airport luggage delivery means leaving your bags at your Busan hotel in the morning and collecting them at Incheon Airport before your flight, while you travel with just a daypack. Korail allows up to two items per passenger that don't take up a seat or block the aisle, big suitcases only fit between carriages, and you still face the Seomyeon subway transfer and the change at Seoul Station. With two or more large suitcases, or with children or older relatives, sending the bags separately is the least tiring option.
LuggAgent offers same-day delivery from Busan hotels to Incheon Airport: book a pickup time between 09:00 and 11:00, leave your bags at the front desk before then and send a photo (no need to wait for the driver), and our agent hands them back to you in person at the airport meeting point; we recommend choosing a delivery time at least 2 hours before your flight departs. This route needs at least 9 hours between pickup and delivery, so it suits evening and late-night departures; the booking page shows the delivery times available. For an earlier flight, send your bags to a last-night hotel in Seoul instead.

How it works:
- Book online: most services need to be booked at least 24–72 hours in advance; the exact cutoff is shown on the booking page (if the pickup is at an Airbnb or guesthouse, the driver meets you in person at your chosen pickup time).
- Choose an airport delivery time; LuggAgent suggests at least 2 hours before your flight.
- When booking, choose a pickup time between 09:00 and 11:00; on departure day, leave your bags at your Busan hotel's front desk before that time and send a photo to customer support (no need to wait for the driver); you get an email when they're collected.
- Spend the day in Busan, or take the KTX with just a daypack.
- Meet the agent at the airport meeting point in your confirmation, take your bags and go straight to check-in.
Each bag can be up to 180 cm (length + width + height) and 32 kg; large items such as golf bags can be up to 250 cm and 25 kg.
If your flight leaves Incheon in the evening, send your bags from your Busan hotel straight to the airport:
If your flight leaves in the morning or around midday, move to Seoul the day before and send your bags to your last-night hotel there:
If you fly out of Gimhae instead, your bags can go to the meeting point at the international terminal of Gimhae Airport; on a domestic transit flight to Incheon, bags are also handed over at the international terminal meeting point, so allow extra time to move between the two terminals. We recommend choosing a delivery time at least 2 hours before your flight departs:

FAQ
Is there a direct train from Busan to Incheon Airport?
No. KTX services to Incheon Airport Station ended in 2018, and the station is now served only by AREX trains. Take the KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station (about 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours) and change to the AREX Express (43–51 minutes), or get off at Gwangmyeong and take airport bus 6770.
How long does it take to get from Busan to Incheon Airport?
By KTX and AREX, the train journey takes about 3 to 4 hours, plus the change at Seoul Station. From a Haeundae hotel, add about an hour to Busan Station and the 3 hours Incheon Airport recommends before departure, so leave about 8 hours before your flight. A direct bus takes 5 hours or more.
Can I check in at Seoul Station for my Incheon flight?
Yes, if your airline takes part. At the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal, passengers of Korean airlines such as Korean Air, Asiana and Jeju Air can check in, drop bags and clear departure immigration, as long as they ride the AREX Express and fly from Incheon the same day. Asiana's check-in closes 3 hours 20 minutes before departure, and foreign airlines aren't on the list.
Should I take the KTX to Seoul Station or Suseo for Incheon Airport?
Seoul Station, where the AREX Express and the City Airport Terminal are. Trains to Suseo in Gangnam, the former SRT that has run as KTX since September 2026, suit hotels in southern Seoul but leave you a subway ride from the AREX.
Can my luggage go from my Busan hotel straight to Incheon Airport?
Yes. With LuggAgent, you book a 09:00–11:00 pickup, leave your bags at your Busan hotel's front desk before then, and an agent hands them back to you at Incheon Airport; we recommend choosing a delivery time at least 2 hours before your flight departs. The route needs at least 9 hours between pickup and delivery, so it suits evening departures; most services need to be booked at least 24–72 hours in advance, and the exact cutoff is shown on the booking page.
