Korea 7–10 Day Itinerary: How to Plan Your Luggage from Seoul to Gyeongju and Busan

On a 7–10 day Korea itinerary, the easiest luggage plan is to base yourself in two or three places, Seoul for about four nights, Busan for two or three and optionally Gyeongju for one, so you only change hotels two or three times. The KTX links all three: Seoul to Busan takes about 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours (₩54,400 standard class), and Gyeongju is about 30 minutes before Busan. Each KTX passenger may bring two items, so with big suitcases, send them hotel to hotel the same day and ride with a daypack.

Key takeaways

How many hotels do you need on a 7–10 day Korea itinerary?

Two bases are enough for 7 days and three work well for 10: start in Seoul, then head south to Busan, adding a night in Gyeongju if you have time. Every extra base adds a moving day.

Trip length Suggested bases Hotel changes Notes
7 days Seoul 4 nights, Busan 2 nights 2 (Seoul → Busan, Busan → airport) Visit Gyeongju as a day stop on the way to Busan
8–9 days Seoul 4 nights, Gyeongju 1, Busan 2–3 3 One night in Gyeongju lets you see it lit up after dark
10 days Seoul 4 nights, Gyeongju 1–2, Busan 3 3–4 Add a last night in Seoul if your flight home leaves in the morning
10 days with Jeju Seoul 4 nights, Busan 2, Jeju 3 3–4 Jeju is a short domestic flight from Busan's Gimhae Airport or Seoul's Gimpo Airport

If Jeju is on your list, our guide to getting around Jeju without a car covers airport buses and taxis with luggage.

Korea 10-day itinerary: Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan with a luggage plan

The rule of thumb is the same everywhere in Korea: on sightseeing days, your bags stay in the room; on moving days, they travel separately. Here is a 10-day example that flies in and out of Incheon:

Day Plan What to do with your luggage
Day 1 Land at Incheon, check in to your Seoul hotel Hand bags to a delivery service in the arrivals hall, or take the AREX Express (about 43 minutes to Seoul Station)
Days 2–4 Seoul: palaces, Bukchon, markets, shopping Same hotel; bags stay in the room
Day 5 Seoul → Gyeongju by KTX (about 2 hours) Leave bags at the Seoul front desk for same-day delivery to Gyeongju
Day 6 Gyeongju → Busan (about 30 minutes) Send bags from Gyeongju to Busan and sightsee until the evening train
Days 7–8 Busan: Haeundae, Gamcheon, Jagalchi Same hotel
Day 9 Busan → Seoul, or a last full day in Busan For a morning flight, move to Seoul and send bags to your last-night hotel
Day 10 Fly home from Incheon Evening flight: send bags from Busan straight to the airport. Morning flight: go from your Seoul hotel

Seoul's autumn colours usually peak in late October and early November (see our Korea autumn foliage guide). If you shop a lot, keep tax-refund goods in your hand luggage, as you may need to show them at the airport; our Seoul shopping guide explains the rules.

The 7-day version: Seoul and Busan, with Gyeongju as a day stop

With 7 days, skip the Gyeongju night and keep two bases. Send your bags from your Seoul hotel straight to Busan, take a morning KTX to Gyeongju, explore with a daypack, and catch an evening train to Busan, about 30 minutes on. You save a hotel change and still see Gyeongju's royal tombs and temples.

Flying in and out of Incheon: which direction works best?

Most long-haul flights from Europe and North America use Incheon, so the usual loop is Seoul first, Busan last. The catch is the last day: with no direct train from Busan to Incheon Airport, the KTX plus AREX takes about 3 to 4 hours before you add airport time. Doing it in reverse, Incheon straight to Busan on arrival day, means 5–7 hours of travel after a long-haul flight, which is far easier if your bags go ahead.

Where to stay in Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan with big suitcases

With large luggage, pick hotels near a station with lifts or on an airport bus route: hills, transfers and stairs-only exits are the hard part, not the train.

City and area Why it works with luggage What to watch
Seoul: Myeongdong, Seoul Station Airport buses 6001 and 6015 stop in Myeongdong; Seoul Station has the AREX and the KTX Many Myeongdong subway exits are stairs only; the airport bus takes 2 bags per person
Seoul: Gangnam, Jamsil Close to Suseo, where former SRT trains now run as KTX Far from Incheon with no direct rail link; long transfers on the subway
Gyeongju: Bomun Lake or city centre Resort hotels at Bomun have front desks; the centre is closest to the sights Gyeongju Station (formerly Singyeongju) is outside the centre; many hanok guesthouses sit down narrow lanes
Busan: Busan Station, Nampo or Haeundae Busan Station and Nampo are closest to the KTX; Haeundae has the beach Haeundae is about an hour from Busan Station by subway, with a change at Seomyeon

How to move your luggage between cities in Korea: 4 options

You can carry your bags on the KTX, send them hotel to hotel the same day, keep one base and day-trip, or check them in at Seoul Station on your last day. The difference is how much you carry on moving day.

Option When bags reach the next stop What you carry on moving day Best for
Carry them on the KTX With you Everything One medium suitcase per person and hotels near stations
Same-day hotel-to-hotel delivery That evening Just a daypack Two or more big cases, families, sightseeing on moving day
Keep one base and day-trip Bags don't move A daypack Gyeongju from Busan (about 30 minutes by KTX)
Check in at Seoul Station before your flight At your destination airport Nothing after check-in Last day in Seoul, flying a participating Korean airline

Seoul Station check-in is for same-day Incheon departures on Korean airlines such as Korean Air, Asiana and Jeju Air, and you then ride the AREX Express; according to Asiana Airlines, it closes 3 hours 20 minutes before departure.

KTX luggage rules for a Seoul–Gyeongju–Busan trip

There is no baggage check-in on the KTX. Under Article 22 of Korail's passenger transport terms, each passenger may bring up to two items that don't take up a seat or block the aisle. The terms set no size or weight limit, and passengers look after their own bags.

In practice, a 28-inch suitcase only fits in the luggage space between carriages, which is shared and first come, first served; backpacks and carry-on cases go on the overhead racks. If you board at Gyeongju, the train has already come from Seoul and that space may be full. Our Seoul to Busan KTX luggage guide has tips for big cases.

What changed in September 2026

On 1 September 2026, the SRT, the high-speed train from Suseo Station in Gangnam, was merged into the KTX. Trains still leave from Suseo but are booked as KTX on Korail's website or the Korail+ app, and fares fell by about 10% on average (Seoul–Busan ₩59,800 → ₩54,400). Tickets usually go on sale about a month ahead; book early for weekends and holidays.

Same-day luggage delivery for your Korea itinerary

Carrying your own bags across Korea means a scramble for the KTX luggage space, subway transfers at Seoul Station or Seomyeon and waiting for check-in, three or four times on a 10-day trip.

LuggAgent delivers luggage the same day between Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan, and to and from Incheon Airport. When booking, choose a pickup time between 09:00 and 11:00, leave your bags at the hotel front desk before then and send a photo to customer support (no need to wait for the driver); they reach your next hotel by 21:00 (by 18:00 with priority delivery), with an email and photo at pickup and delivery. Cross-city routes need at least 9 hours between pickup and delivery. At the airport, an agent with a LuggAgent sign meets you in the arrivals hall; for deliveries to the airport, we recommend choosing a delivery time at least 2 hours before your flight departs. Most services need to be booked at least 24–72 hours in advance; the exact cutoff is shown on the booking page. Each bag can be up to 180 cm (length + width + height) and 32 kg; large items such as golf bags up to 250 cm and 25 kg.

On arrival day, hand your bags over in the Incheon arrivals hall (book a handover at least an hour after landing) and ride into Seoul empty-handed:

FAQ

Is 7 days enough for Seoul and Busan?

Yes, for a first visit. Four nights in Seoul and two in Busan, with Gyeongju as a day stop on the way south, covers the highlights with only two hotel changes. The KTX from Seoul to Busan takes about 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours, so the move costs you half a day at most.

Should I stay overnight in Gyeongju or visit as a day trip?

If you have 9–10 days, one night in Gyeongju lets you see Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond lit up after dark. With 7 days, visit as a day stop between Seoul and Busan or a day trip from Busan, about 30 minutes each way by KTX, so you don't add a hotel change.

How many bags can I take on the KTX?

Korail's passenger terms allow up to two items per passenger that don't take up a seat or block the aisle; they set no size or weight limit. Large suitcases go in the luggage space between carriages, which can't be reserved and fills up at weekends and on holidays.

Can I fly home from Busan instead of Incheon?

Busan's Gimhae Airport has international flights, but most travellers from Europe and North America fly home via Incheon. Some airlines sell a transit-only Gimhae–Incheon domestic flight together with your international ticket; you check in at Gimhae and your bags are normally checked through, so confirm when you book.

Do I need a K-ETA to visit Korea?

Korea's Ministry of Justice has extended the temporary K-ETA exemption to 31 December 2026 for the countries currently exempt, which include the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Check the official K-ETA site before you book, especially for trips from January 2027.

Can my luggage go from Busan straight to Incheon Airport?

Yes. With LuggAgent, you pick a 09:00–11:00 pickup time when booking, leave your bags at your Busan hotel's front desk before then, and an agent hands them back to you at Incheon Airport; we recommend choosing a delivery time at least 2 hours before your flight departs. The route needs at least 9 hours between pickup and delivery, so it suits evening departures.
